This page is dedicated to the frequently asked questions pertaining to food safety or food handling or FoodSafe courses in Canada.

How long does the course take to complete?

Level one certification courses and basic food handling courses take approximately 8 hours to complete.

Is the class going to be all lecture?

No, candidates will have the opportunity to interact during the course, watch videos and demonstrate and learn knew food handling skills.

Is the course difficult to complete?

No, most candidates have difficulty completing the course. The course has about a 95% pass rate.

Do I have to write a test?

Yes, candidates will have to complete a multiple choice test with about 50 to 55 questions. Candidates are required to receive at least a grade of 70% to complete the course. Candidates will have approximately an hour to complete the test.

I do not speak English very well, can I take this course or receive a book in a different language?

Yes, all of our training providers across Canada offer courses and reading material in a variety of different languages.

What is the cost of the food safety or food handling course?

The cost of the course varies depending on the type, level and your location. Cost varies from 55 to 125 dollars. Level 2 courses are approximately 125 dollars and basic and level 1 courses are anywhere from 55 to 80 dollars.

What should I wear to the course?

Wear comfortable clothes to the course. You will be moving around and participating in activities. Comfortable shoes are also recommended.

When do I have to re-certify my award?

Most candidates will never have to re-certify the award. Certificates are valid for life. However, some candidates may be required to re-certify based on health inspector requirements.

When will I get my certificate?

Candidates will receive a wallet sized certificate or a wall mount certificate immediately upon completion of the course. Candidates will also be in-putted into a provincial registry depending on province of completion.
