Windsor Food Safety Certification

Canada takes food safety very seriously – all provinces in the country have passed bylaws requiring food safety training for all food handlers working in food establishments. The local health authorities in Windsor are responsible for regulating all food facilities and establishments in the city, making sure that they have staff members who are trained and certified in food safety and sanitation.

Windsor First Aid is one of the few training providers that are approved by the Windsor local health authorities with Windsor Food Safety Certification.

Food Safety in Ontario

Windsor can be found in the province of Ontario, meaning it is governed by the laws created by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. In Ontario, all food establishments that handle medium-risk and high-risk food products are required to have a certified food handler on duty at all times. The certified food handler has to have trained in a provider approved by the Ontario health authorities – Windsor First Aid is one of these providers.

At Windsor First Aid, we want to make our programs very accessible to students – so we have made enrollment available on the internet. The Windsor First Aid website has an interactive application form that you fill out on the website and submit through the website. No more downloads needed!

Queries can be sent through e-mail, made over the telephone call, or during business hours in person. Our website has a list of all available courses (and their respective schedules and rates).

Training with Windsor Food Safety Certification

Windsor First Aid offers students two different ways to study food safety  – (1) classroom-based or (2) self-study. The former is by far the most popular, with students preferring to learn food safety and sanitation in a classroom and laboratory set-up. This kind of program is no different from a typical class taken at school. After completion of the training period, students take the certification exam in order to receive their food safety training credential.

Self-study is a special kind of training. We allow students to simply buy our workbooks and study the material on their own. Students who have class during the day or work prefer this kind of training over the regular classroom-type course. They can choose to study at home or in our designated study halls. After finishing the course material, they can sign up for the certification exam when they wish to take it.

Windsor First Aid certificates

All training credentials from Windsor First Aid are only valid for five years. Students need to retake the certification exam (and take a refresher class beforehand) to receive a new food safety and sanitation training certificate.

Getting started: Introduction to dehydration

What makes foodborne illness so dangerous? The risk for dehydration. All foodborne illnesses are characterized by two main symptoms – vomiting and diarrhea. Excessive vomiting and diarrhea leads to a rapid loss of fluid and electrolytes and a high risk for dehydration. Without enough fluid circulating in the body, it can cause oxygen deprivation in the body’s major organs and tissues and cause multi-organ dysfunction.
